I vari stati essendo di materiali diversi generano riflessioni ottiche differenti dovuti al proprio indice di rifrazione. La testina ottica raccoglie tutti gli indici di rifrazione grazie ad un sistema ottico evoluto.<br \/>\nI segnali ottici raccolti contengono le informazioni in merito alla posizione di ogni rifrazione.<br \/>\nIl sistema processa i segnali ottici presentandoli nella lettura del profilo A (A-SCAN \u2013 intensit\u00e0 di riflessione contro posizione).
